YMCA Volleyball leagues provide an introduction to the up and coming popular sport among girls and boys. Children learn the fundamentals, focusing on basic skill development and proper technique. Participants progress from learning the rules to developing skills in the areas of underhand and overhand serving, setting, hitting, and digging. The YMCA emphasizes teaching the values of good sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting, and skill development in a fun, esteem-promoting atmosphere.
At the Y they will learn the fundamentals of volleyball. This can include things like passing, setting, spiking, blocking, digging, and serving. They will learn how to communicate and build their skills. Passing will be taught with the proper stance and movements. They will also learn the positions on the team and which position best suits their skills, taking into consideration their wants and needs. Learning how to serve will also be essential to basic volleyball skills, as well as learning the correct posture and movement it takes. By working in a team, they will enjoy the camaraderie and learn how to work together. Plus, the improvement of balance and endurance with constant movement from volleyball.
