The YMCA offers Babysitting Safety training for teens. This program is designed to focus on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information in the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic caregiving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children or infants.
YMCA Youth and Government™ is a national program of the Y that involves thousands of teens in approximately 40 states nationwide in state-organized, model government programs. The first Youth and Government program took place in 1936 in New York. The Texas Program began in 1946 and today, nearly 25,000 students annually take part in state Youth and Government conferences nationwide (including Model State Government and Model United Nations conferences), with 3,300 adult volunteers and YMCA staff serving as adult advisors. Many of these advisors were involved throughout their own high school careers and return as adults to help “give back” to a new generation of youth leaders. Students from every corner of the U.S. have the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential civic engagement and, quite literally, practice democracy.
